2016 October Meeting and Upcoming Events

on .

Hello Summit Snowmobilers,

Hope everyone had a great summer. Fall is upon us, and last week’s early snow definitely reminded me that winter is coming.

For our new members and as a reminder for our old members, the regular club meetings are typically held the second Tuesday of each month, @ 6pm at Q4U in Frisco. We decided to start the meetings tomorrow, October 11th. Hope to see you at Q4U. We’ll be updating members on our grooming program and our trail projects. I also have some great news to share with the members.

You should have received the Snowscoop a few weeks ago announcing the Rocky Mountain Snowmobile Expo this past weekend. I saw quite a few club members down there and went to the Colorado Snowmobile Association quarterly board meeting on Sunday.

CSA announced that their annual convention and ride will be hosted by the Silverton club this year from February 10, 11 and 12th. They will be riding Molas Pass, Deer Park and probably some of the more steep terrain around Silverton. Jim from the Silverton club mentioned that if you want to ride in his backyard, you should bring a beacon. So, it should be an interesting trip. We are also planning a few overnight rides for this year. We will talk about the ride locations at our meetings.

We have been laying the ground work for our Snowmobile Season Kick-Off Party and fundraiser, Saturday November 19th at the Elks Lodge in Silverthorne. We are very excited about the change in venue this year as we will be able to comfortable fit more people in. We are trying to line up a big movie screen for the premiere of Boondockers 13. I spoke to Dan Gardiner with Boondockers this weekend, he offered to hook us up with copies of the new movie and all kinds of Boondockers gear. Matt Entz with Mountain Skillz and hopefully several members of the Boondockers crew will also be in attendance.

We always need additional items and donations to give away at the event. We will be raffling off a 2 day snowmobile class with Matt Entz as one of our grand prizes, but we always need more items give away, time to clean out the closets!

CSA is doing their snowmobile raffle again. I picked up the tickets and will have them at tomorrow’s meeting. This year the first prize is a 2017 Arctic Cat M8000 Limited, Valued at $13,999. http://www.arcticcat.com/snow/sleds/model/2017-en-m-8000-limited-153/ Second prize is a ZR 120 kids sled.

Raffle tickets are $5.00, and we have 400 tickets to distribute to members to sell. The proceeds from the raffle sales are split with CSA, and for every ticket our club sells, we receive about $2.40 for our grooming program. This is a fun event and a great fundraiser for the club, if you’d like tickets to sell, let me know or stop by tomorrow’s meeting. We will also have plenty of tickets to sell at the Kick-Off party.

Once again this season, we will be coordinating an intro to Avalanche Awareness class with Tyler’s Backcountry Awareness instructor Brian Lundstedt. http://www.backcountryawareness.org/  This will be a 2 day course, (one evening classroom session and one full day on the snow at Spring Creek). Class size is limited to 10-15 people.

Brian also offered to run a snowmobile specific Level 1 avalanche class for any of our interested members, preferably members who completed last year’s Intro class. If anyone is interested, get with me and we can see about class schedules.

You may have seen an e-mail that your CSA and club memberships are expiring, memberships run on a calendar year and your 2016 membership will expire at the end of December. Please don’t forget to renew in order to keep receiving our club communications. Memberships can be renewed online at www.snowmobilecolo.com or in person at any club meeting or event.

Hope to see you all tomorrow, thanks!
